GREAT BRIDGE'S JETT TURNS IT ON AT ALL-STAR MEET

KYLE JETT DIDN'T win the most races at the Virginia Beach Swim League All-Star meet on Saturday. In fact, he only won one. Yet, the victory was one of Great Bridge Swim and Racquet Club's biggest highlights.

Jett, seeded seventh and competing in the ``slow'' heat, swam a 16.28-second time to win the boys' 10-and-under 25-meter freestyle as Great Bridge won nine events on the day at Little Neck Swim Club in Virginia Beach. He was .08 seconds faster than Riverwalk's Tyler Garner, who won the second heat.

``I can't believe I got first and was seeded seventh,'' Jett said. ``I eclipsed all my times.''

In addition, Jett helped lead the Piranhas to a second-place finish in the 100 relay free (1:05.41).

Jett wasn't the only successful Great Bridge swimmer.

Kelly Reitz helped the Piranhas to a victory in the mixed 12-and-under 100 free relay (1:59.25). In her next race, she set a record in the 12-and-under 50 breaststroke (38.29). She later went on to a second-place finish in the 100 individual medley (1:17.94); third in the 50 butterfly (35.60) and helped the girls 100 free relay to a second place (59.19).

``It was really exciting,'' Reitz said. ``I've been to the All Stars before but this is the first time I have done anything. I've gotten fifth and sixth before.''

Teammate Andy Roberts won the 12-and-under 50 backstroke (40.03) and the swam opening leg for the winning boys 12-and-under 100 free relay (1:00.56).

George Rector and Justin Culbert helped Great Bridge win the boys 14-and-under 200 free relay (1:58.10) and the mixed competition (1:59.04).

Other Piranhas with first-place finishes were C.J. Eiban in the boys 8-and-under 25 free (18.49) and Bryan Vaughan in the boys 8-and-under 25 breaststroke (22.70).

``They did great,'' Piranhas coach Kristen Kirkman, whose team tied for second with Pembroke Meadows with nine first-place finishes. ``They had an excellent meet top to bottom.''

Carolanne Farms of Virginia Beach won 14 events.

The Greenbrier Country Club also emerged with a few winners.

Ryan Nero won the boys 8-and-under 25 back (21.66); Casey Moore won the boys 14-and-under 50 free (27.76) and Mary Lu Kelly won the girls 6-and-under 25 free (21.24).
