BULLETIN BOARD

SUFFOLK

School registration, school physicals, state-required school immunizations. There's a lot of stuff to think about when it's time to start your children in school. Trying to make it easier for parents is the Suffolk C.A.R.E. - Children's Assistance and Resource Event - Fair, to be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Elephant's Fork Elementary School at 2316 William Reed Drive. The fair offers opportunities for registration, physicals and immunizations, plus other services and entertainment for the children.

For more information about the fair, call the school at 925-5555. For information about school-physical requirements or to register for a free physical, call the Suffolk Health Department at 686-4931. For bus sites, call 925-6334.

The School Board will hold its monthly meeting Thursday at 7 p.m. in council chambers on the second floor of the Municipal Building at 441 Market St. The meeting will be broadcast live on the Municipal Channel - Falcon Cable TV Channel 8 - and will be rebroadcast on WSPS-Cable Channel 6, the school division's educational-access channel, at 8 a.m., noon and 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18, through Sunday, Aug. 24.

For more information, call the School Board offices at 925-5500.

CHESAPEAKE

The School Board will hold a public hearing on a proposal to require a 2.0 grade-point average for students to participate in certain extracurricular activities, including athletics. The superintendent's proposal was first presented to the board in June.

The public hearing will take place at the school administration building at 312 Cedar Road at 7 p.m. Monday. The regular school board meeting will follow. For more information, or to sign up to speak, call 547-1047.

VIRGINIA BEACH

If your child lacks the immunizations needed to start school, the Virginia Beach Department of Public Health may be able to help. The department holds immunization clinics five days a week for newborns and those up to age 18.

Clinics are held at several sites in the city, and immunizations required for school are free. Non-Virginia Beach residents can also attend the clinics.

For more information, call (757) 431-3500.
