MARY L. PANTON

Mary Lassiter Panton, 88, of the 22200 block of Deer Lane died Aug. 6, 1997, in Southampton Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Panton, a native of Northampton County, N.C., was the daughter of the late Melvin and Letia Bolton Lassiter and the widow of Harry W. Panton. She was the retired owner/operator of The Flat Top in Milwaukee, N.C. She was a member of the Bethany Methodist Church, Milwaukee, a member and past matron of the Franklin Chapter No. 128 Order of the Eastern Star and was a volunteer at the East Pavilion.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Flythe and her husband, David Earl; two grandsons, Walt and Chris Flythe; brother, Melvin Lassiter Jr. and his wife, Jennie, of Kinston, N.C.; sister-in-law, Herlon Lassiter of Columbia, N.C.; brother-in-law, Charlie Panton and his wife, Bertha, of Milwaukee; niece, Susie Gregory of Virginia Beach; two nephews, Wayne Lassiter of Virginia Beach and Lewis Lassiter of South Carolina.

A graveside funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Milwaukee Cemetery by the Rev. Daniel Bowman. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Ruth Petty, 116 Southampton Road, Franklin, Va. 23851, or East Pavilion Discretionary Fund, Southampton Memorial Hospital, 100 Fairview Drive, Franklin, Va. 23851.
