CATCHES SLOW AFTER A GOOD MACKEREL RUN

Pier fishing along the northern beaches was fairly slow Friday.

Kitty Hawk Pier reported a good run of Spanish mackerel late Thursday, but fishing was very slow Friday.

A few spot were taken on Avalon Pier.

Nags Head Pier anglers caught a few spot and tailor blues early in the morning, but little action was reported the rest of the day.

A few small flounder and small bottom fish were taken on Jennette's Pier.

Fishermen on Outer Banks Pier landed some Spanish mackerel and a 28 pound cobia Thursday evening. A few Spanish mackerel, bluefish, spot and small flounder were decked Friday.

On Hatteras Island, Rodanthe Pier reported unusually slow fishing, with only a few small bluefish taken.

Avon Pier anglers landed a handful of croaker, spot and sea mullet off and on throughout the day.

Some Spanish mackerel were caught early in the morning on Frisco Pier. Scattered small flounder and a few Pompano were taken during the day.

Surfcasters along the northern beaches landed small spot, croaker and a few nice sea mullet Friday on the rising tide.

Small bottom fish, scattered bluefish and a few trout were taken around Oregon Inlet.

Spot and croaker were beached by surf fishermen from Rodanthe to Buxton.

Spot, croaker and a few flounder were taken by surf fishermen in the Cape Point area.

Good numbers of bluefish, some sea mullet and a few nice pompano were caught in the surf from Ramp 55 to Hatteras Inlet.

Charters fishing around Oregon Inlet caught scattered Spanish mackerel, bluefish, small croaker and small flounder.

Blue water action off Oregon inlet was scrappy Friday. A few tuna were landed near the point, along with an occasional dolphin and wahoo. A few billfish were released, including a blue marlin and a sailfish by the Flying Fisherman and a blue marlin by the Capt. B.C.

Gulf Stream charters off Hatteras landed a few dolphin and scattered wahoo. Blue marlin were released by the Tuna Duck and the Hatteras Fever.

The water temperature was 76 degrees Friday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck, and 77 degrees at Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island.
