PELZO S. MASON JR.

Mr. Pelzo Samuel ``Buddy'' Mason Jr., of the 500 block of Merriwether Court, died Aug. 12, 1997.

A native of Winston-Salem, N.C., Mr. Mason had made his home in North Augusta for the past 13 years, coming from Augusta, Ga. He was a member of the Southgate Baptist Church, the Maranatha Sunday School class; had retired from the U.S. Army as a master sergeant after 27 years of service. He had fought in the Dominican Republic and in Vietnam. Mr. Mason was a recipient of the Bronze Star, the Vietnam Service Medal for 11 Campaigns, the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, and the Purple Heart.

Survivors include his wife, Ann Y. Mason; two sons, Steven R. Mason of Meridian, Miss., Samuel A. Mason of Philadelphia; three daughters, Donna L. Boyle of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Victoria L. Crawford of Decatur, Miss., Tammy Jo Ritter of Springfield, Va.; a brother, Terry S. Mason of Norfolk; and eight grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Southgate Baptist Church by the Rev. Timothy Carnes. Interment will be in Pineview Memorial Gardens.

Full military honors will be accorded by the U.S. Army Honor Guard, Fort Gordon, Ga. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Maranatha Sunday School class at Southgate Baptist Church.
