MADELINE R. MURRAY

Madeline R. Murray, 81, of the 5500 block of Towne Point Road died Aug. 10, 1997, in Maryview Hospital, Portsmouth.

She was born in Ambler, Pa., and was the widow of James ``Pop'' Murray. She retired as the librarian of the Massachusetts/State Archival Library after 22 years of service. Mrs. Murray was a member of Church of God-Saints of Christ (Belleville) Suffolk. She held the office of Mary in the Daughters of Jerusalem and Sisters of Mercy; a singer in the Union Choir; first president of the Experienced Citizens Industrial and Entertainment Center of Temple Beth El; founder of the Candlelight Memorial Service; past grand marshall of the Prince Hall Grand Chapter, Order of Easter Star, Jurisdiction of Massachusetts; past worthy matron of Rising Sun Chapter (NU)2; chairperson of the 50th anniversary celebration of the chapter; and member of Retired Senior Volunteer Program of Portsmouth.

She is survived by a daughter, Daisy A. Voigt of Washington, D.C.; a sister, Ethel Roberts of Chester, Pa.; and two grandchildren, Madeline D. Murray and Erich S. Berg; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousin, in-laws and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday in Church of God-Saints of Christ Tabernacle, Belleville, Suffolk, by Evangelist C.C. Farrar. Burial will be in Belleville Cemetery, Suffolk. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at 4 p.m. today. The body will be taken to the tabernacle at 9 a.m. Thursday. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
