MARTIN SMITH-RODDEN, The Virginian-Pilot

Gen. Fu Quanyou, center, chief of the general staff of China's

People's Liberation Army, surveys the landing area and catch wires

of the carrier John C. Stennis. Capt. Douglas Roulstone, at right

with back to camera, the carrier's commanding officer, led the

general on a tour of the carrier on Aug. 6 and gave him a souvenir

ball cap.
