GLADYS B. AKERS

Gladys Belcher Akers, 80, of the 1200 block of Portsmouth Blvd., died Aug. 12, 1997, in Louise Obici Memorial Hospital.

A homemaker, she was a native of Grundy, Va., and the widow of Lawrence W. Akers. She was a member of Grundy Baptist Church and a daughter of the late Tolby Belcher and Rose Elswick Belcher.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol Akers Moore of Suffolk and Sue Akers of Suffolk; son, Lawrence J. Akers of Hampton; brother, E. Russell Belcher of Grundy; five grandchildren, Karen A. Govan of Hampton, Patricia A. Bowen of Hampton, Lisa M. Holland of Suffolk, Leigh M. Thorne of Suffolk and Lynn M. Ashby of Suffolk; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Harrell Funeral Home, Suffolk, by the Rev. James Draper. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. Friends may join the family in the funeral home today from 7 to 8 p.m. and other times at the residence of Carol Moore, 1280 Portsmouth Blvd. Contributions may be made to Obici Hospital, Hospice Center, P.O.
