Applications for Northern Life's Education's Unsung Heroes Awards are being accepted for the 1998 program.

Northern Life Insurance Co. will give $2,000 awards to 80 recognized kindergarten through 12th-grade educators. Teachers, principals, classified staff and paraprofessionals can be nominated for the prizes, which recognize innovative spirit and programs that positively influence children.

Applicants will be judged on the description of their projects and their use of funds, and on the benefits gained by students from the projects. Of the 80 finalists, three top winners will collect additional prizes of $25,000, $10,000 and $5,000.

The award money is to help further the winners' projects.
