THE MERGER

Bell Atlantic and Nynex of New York merged to form a $23 billion

company - the second biggest behind AT&T. This is the second-largest

consolidation in U.S. history.

THE COMPANY

It will use the name Bell Atlantic, serving 13 states and the

District of Columbia.

LOCALLY

BELL ATLANTIC PROVIDES SERVICE TO MORE THAN 440,000 LINES.
