EGBERT L. MORTIMER

Egbert Laird Mortimer, 80, of the 15300 block of Cedar Grove Road, died Friday, Aug. 15, 1997, in Riverside Regional Medical Center. He was a native of Pittsylvania County, Va., and retired in 1973 from Langley Air Force Base Federal Civil Service with 31 years. Mr. Mortimer was a member of Carrollton Baptist Church, American Legion Post No. 41, Richmond, and was a U.S. Army Signal Corps veteran serving in World War II.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Bernice Bailey Mortimer; three sons, William L. Mortimer and his wife, Sharon, of Carrollton, Michael R. Mortimer and his wife, Karen, of Virginia Beach, and Allen B. Mortimer and his wife, Ella, of Surry; two sisters, Emma M. Berry of Fredericksburg and Elizabeth M. Shotwell of Altavista; five grandchildren, Scott, Jon Michael, Meghan, Chad and Bailey.

A funeral service will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in Colonial Funeral Home Chapel, Smithfield, by the Rev. Lee Hess. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News. The family will receive friends Sunday from 4 to 5 p.m. in Colonial Funeral Home. Contributions may be made to the Carrollton Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 267, Carrollton, Va. 23314.
