Chester Allen Newman Jr., 62, of the 6400 block of Knotts Island Road died Aug. 14, 1997, in his residence.
Mr. Newman was a native of Dayton, Ohio. He was the son of the late Chester A. Newman Sr. and Edna Allen Newman. He retired from the U.S. Navy with 31 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Madge E. Newman; daughter, Dorothy Clark of Knotts Island, N.C.; two sons, James Freeman of Knotts Island, Wayne Freeman of Huntingdon, Tenn.; sister, Carrol Gant of Dayton, Ohio; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. at 120 Bryan Road, Knotts Island. Burial will be private.
