MARY FRANCES WOOD

Mary Frances Powell Wood, 67, of the 1100 block of Woodland Terrace Drive died Aug. 16, 1997, in a Portsmouth hospital.

She was a native of Nansemond County, Va., and was predeceased by her parents, Bennie Powell and Virginia Underwood Powell. She was an elementary school teacher and a member of Cradock United Methodist Church and a graduate of James Madison University, where she was a charter and life member of Zeta Tau Alpha. She retired from the Chesapeake School System in 1991 and was a member of the Women of the Moose No. 966.

Survivors include her husband, Johnnie L. Wood; two sons, John L. Wood and his wife, Cindy, of Corapeake, N.C., and Kelly J. Wood and his wife, Lorie, of Chesapeake; sister, Irene Stephens and her husband, Ronald, of Portsmouth; brother, Bennie Powell and his wife, Jerry, of Suffolk; mother-in-law, Helen Wood of Portsmouth; brother-in-law, Bob Wood and his wife, Linda, of Portsmouth; three grandchildren, Jenna Leigh, Daniel Joseph and Jordan Blair.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Olive Branch Cemetery by the Rev. Rob Vaughn. The family will receive friends in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
