TRACK NORFOLK STATE'S MONTGOMERY WINS GRAND PRIX'S 100

Norfolk State's Tim Montgomery, trying to rebound after his disapointing performance in the 4x100-meter relay at the World Championships, pulled away in the final 20 meters of the 100 meters Saturday to win in 9.99 at the Herculis Monte Carlo Grand Prix.

Dennis Mitchell finished second, edging world champion Maurice Greene, 10.05 to 10.06.

Montgomery was the No. 2 runner on the U.S. 400-meter relay team and failed to connect with leadoff runner Brian Lewis on the handoff. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
