Hugh Edward Black Sr., 79, of the 2700 block of Berkley Ave. extension, died Aug. 17, 1997.
Born in Dunn, N.C., he was the retired owner and operator of Black Brothers Builders and Blacks Hardware. He attended Hickory United Methodist Church and was a member of the Portsmouth Order of the Moose.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma M. Black of Sanford, N.C.; three daughters, Kay Magette, Kara Mosher and Kathy Craig, all of Chesapeake; one son, H. Edward Black Jr. and his wife, Betty, of Chesapeake; one sister, Louise Skipwith of Clarksville, Va.; one brother, William D. Black of Emporia; grandchildren, Andy and Sandra Malbon, Hugh Edward Black III and Cheryl, Jimmy and Tracy Lane, Ronnie and Sherry Edge, Kevin and Brenda Edge, Clay Black, Joey Edge, Billy and Genell Edge, Danny Edge, Angie and Steve Buchannan, Denise and Doug Alexander; and 12 great-grandchildren, Drew, Courtney, Jorden, Katie, Stevie, Nikki, Colby, Brittany, Samantha, Hannah, Julie and April. He was predeceased by his first wife, Emma G. Black.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Holloman-Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel by the Rev. Tom Mercer. Burial will be in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will be at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
