Two North Carolina men were killed and another was in critical condition after the Camaro they were in slammed into an oncoming car and burst into flames early Sunday, police said.
The accident happened at 2:41 a.m. at the intersection of Ruthven Road and Terminal Boulevard, police said.
Todd Adrian Tysinger, 30, of the 400 block of Janie St. in Kannapolis, N.C., and Robert Shawn Fulghum, 30, of Concord, N.C., both stationed aboard the destroyer Barry, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Fulghum's younger brother, John H. Fulghum, also from Concord and in his 20s, was listed in critical condition Sunday in the Burn-Trauma Unit at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
It was not immediately clear who was driving.
The driver of the second car, Justin O. Ragesdale, 21, stationed aboard the amphibious assault ship Saipan, was listed in stable condition at Norfolk General.
Police spokesman Larry Hill said the Camaro was headed west on Terminal Boulevard when it turned left and collided with Ragesdale's eastbound 1991 Ford Escort.
The Camaro erupted in flames shortly after impact. Rescue workers pulled two men from the burning car.
Police are investigating the cause of the accident, but Hill said it did not appear that speeding was a factor. No charges have been filed. KEYWORDS: ACCIDENT TRAFFIC FATALITIES INJURIES
