BRADFORD WHITEHEAD

Hinton Bradford ``Shorty'' Whitehead, 87, of 23421 Worrell's Fork Road, died Aug. 17, 1997, in Southampton Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Whitehead, a lifelong resident of Southampton County, was a son of the late Jordan Walter and Betty Rowe Whitehead. He was an Army veteran of World War II and retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation. He was a member of Courtland United Methodist Church and a 55-year member of the Courtland Masonic Lodge (NU)85.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Eleanor W. Whitehead; a son, Bradford Whitehead Jr. and his wife, Marsha of Sebrell, Va.; three sisters, Doris Applewhite and Elizabeth Whitehead of Sebrell and Evelyn Whitehead of Franklin; a brother, Homer Whitehead of Sebrell; four grandchildren, Anna, Robert, Cameron and John; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Riverside Cemetery by the Rev. Robert S. Parks. The family will receive friends at Brad and Marsha's home at 17340 River Road, Sebrell, from 7 to 9 p.m. today. Memorials may be made to the Courtland Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O.
