Winifred Leyland Chesnut, 91, died Aug. 17, 1997.
She was the widow of the late L.L. Chesnut. She was a former resident of Newport News for 25 years where she was employed in the Circulation Department of the Daily Press Newspaper Corp. before moving to Norfolk. She was a retired private school teacher and part-time music specialist for the City of Norfolk Recreation Bureau. Mrs. Chesnut was active in the Women of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, serving as leader of the Bishop Newton Circle, a Devotional Chairman for the Episcopal Church Women, Sunday School teacher and member of the choir. She was an active volunteer for Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters from which she retired after 10 years and 6000 hours and was a member of the Margaret Bottome King's Daughters' Circle. She played the piano for senior citizens and many other groups. She was a member of the 60 Plus Club and the Tidewater Senior Citizens Club where she was a pianist. She was president and vice president of the John Knox Residents Association in 1984.
Survivors include a son, Walter M. Chesnut of Amherst, Mass., and three grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. today in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Heart Fund, St. Andrews Episcopal Church or Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, is handling arrangements. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
