Betty Jean Long, 67, of the 300 block of Edgewood Road died Aug. 18, 1997, in a local hospital.
He was a member of Park View Baptist Church, the women's club of the church, Park Manor Garden Club and the Woodrow Wilson High School Reunion Committee for the Class of 1947. Mrs. Long was a native of Portsmouth.
Survivors include her husband, Forrest Elwood Long; two daughters, Diana C. Long of Roanoke, Denise L. Felton and her husband, David of Portsmouth; a son, David E. Long, and his wife, Linda of Portsmouth; two sisters, Evelyn Crumpler and husband, Nelson, Dorothy Doughtie and her husband, Pete, all of Portsmouth and sister-in-law, Florence Price of Portsmouth; two grandchildren, Jayson and his wife, Holly Roten, and Amy M. Long; a great-granddaughter, Ashley Paige Roten; and a lifelong friend, Jeanne Benthall of Ahoskie, N.C.
A graveside funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Olive Branch Cemetery by the Rev. Bonnie Doughtie and the Rev. Neal Sasser. Loving Funeral Home, Churchland, is handling arrangements.
