William T. Barkey Sr., 76, passed away Aug. 18, 1997, in Columbia Regional Medical Center, Fort Pierce, after an extended illness.
Mr. Barkey was born June 2, 1921, in Brooklyn, N.Y., and had been a resident of Fort Pierce since 1986, coming from Virginia Beach.
Mr. Barkey was a purchasing agent for Maryview Hospital in Portsmouth and a Roman Catholic of faith. He served in the U.S. Navy for 29 years as senior chief petty officer during World War II-Korean and the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Jean Barkey of Fort Pierce; three sons, John and Barney Barkey of Virginia Beach, Bill and Kathy Barkey of Fort Pierce and Anthony J. Barkey of Virginia Beach; daughter, Tricia Barkey of Chicago; three grandchildren, Rachel, LeAnn and Will Barkey; close relatives, James and Shirley Uster of Newport News and Jeannette Barkey, Rosemary Barkey and Alice Fey, all residents of Florida.
A visitation will be today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in Cox-Gifford Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Entombment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Fort Pierce. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O.
