Hilda Gates Daniels, 83, died Aug. 18, 1997, in her home.

A homemaker, she was a Norfolk native and the widow of Clarence Hardy Daniels Sr. and a member of Lafayette Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Dorothy P. Fancher of Norfolk; son, Clarence Hardy Daniels Jr. and his wife, Ann, of Norfolk; brother, James Albert Gates Jr. of Virginia Beach; seven grandchildren, Donald L. Fancher and his wife, Becky, of Somerset, Ky., Karen Fancher Thayer and her husband, Robert, of Virginia Beach, Amy L. Fancher of Norfolk, Sheryl L. Williford and her husband, David, of Norfolk, Patricia Ann Daniels of Portsmouth, Lt. L. Richard Schwartz III and his wife, Catherine, of Norfolk and Craig Bradley Schwartz of Virginia Beach; five great-grandchildren, Regina Fancher, Mindy Fancher, both of Somerset, Shawn Sims of Virginia Beach, L. Richard Schwartz IV of Norfolk and Joseph Orlan Schwartz of Norfolk.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Lafayette Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Max G. Culler. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Family and friends will be received at the daughter's home at 7700 N. Shirland Ave., Apt. No. 1, Norfolk. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the church choir robe fund at 1821 Lafayette Blvd., Norfolk. Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, is in charge.
