Mary Payne Baldwin Fairchild died Aug. 22, 1997, in Atlanta.
Mrs. Fairchild was a native of Norfolk and a longtime resident of Atlanta. She was a member of Cathedral of St. Philip Episcopal Church, where she was active in the St. Rhoda's Guild.
Mrs. Fairchild was a member of National Society of Colonial Dames of America in the state of Georgia; the Junior League of Atlanta; the Habersham Garden Club; the Atlanta Historical Society; and the Gallivanters Square Dance Group.
Survivors include her husband, Jack Clinton Fairchild, and her three sons, Ludwell Baldwin Fairchild and his wife, Kathleen W. Fairchild, and Jack Clinton Fairchild Jr. and his wife, Barbara B. Fairchild, all of Atlanta, and Inman Payne Fairchild and his wife, Carolyn S. Fairchild, of Cartersville, Ga., and her six grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 27, 1997, at Elmwood Cemetery Norfolk by Rev. James Sell. Memorial donations may be made to the Cathedral of St. Philip, 2744 Peachtree Road, N.W., Atlanta, Ga. 30305. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, is handling arrangements.
