ELIZABETH B. JOHNSTON

Elizabeth Banks Johnston, 83, of Bishop's Park Drive, died Friday, Aug. 22, 1997, in Rex Hospital after a four-month battle with cancer.

Mrs. Johnston was born Feb. 13, 1914, in Winton. She was the widow of William Perry Johnston and the daughter of the late Ernest Linwood and Emily Lee Banks. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Minta Banks Eure of Raleigh and Myrtle Banks Coggsdale of Franklin, Va., and a brother, Dr. Ernest L. Banks of Atlanta.

Mrs. Johnston was a charter member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church and served as administrative assistant in the North Carolina Democratic State Headquarters from 1952-1977.

Survivors include three nieces, Armecia Eure Black of Raleigh, Beverly Banks Boland of Lakemont, Ga., and Martha Banks Gaddis of Laurel, Miss.; and 12 great-nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. today in St. Michael's Episcopal Church. Interment will be in St. Michael's Memorial Burial Garden immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 1520 Canterbury Road, Raleigh, N.C. 27608. Brown-Wynne Funeral Home is handling arrangements. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
