Group seeks plan to reduce

rate of single-mother births

Strategies to reduce the number of out-of-wedlock births and their impact on society will be discussed at the Partners in Prevention meeting Tuesday.

Members of the state-sponsored Partners in Prevention coalition in Suffolk include local clergy, educators, social agencies and interested citizens who met in June to discuss concerns about single-mother births. The coalition was developed after Congress offered states five $20 million grants through the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Act of 1996.

The meeting, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Suffolk Health Department, 1217 N. Main St., is open to the public. An overview of programs already in place and the possibility of expanding them will be discussed.

For information, call 686-4901.
