AMELIA C. WILLIAMSON

Amelia C. ``Millie'' Williamson, 97, of Midlothian, Ill., died Aug. 22, 1997, in a nursing home.

Born Dec. 13, 1899, she was a native of New York City and lived in Norfolk as a homemaker and was the first African-American volunteer to be accepted in the local American Red Cross during World War II. ``Millie'' was a member of First United Presbyterian Church, Norfolk, for many years.

Mrs. Williamson was the widow of the late Dr. Gammon H. Williamson Sr.

Survivors include a daughter, Mildred Williamson Hill and her husband, Thomas, of Chicago; two sons, Gammon Harvey Williamson and his wife, Jackie, of Virginia Beach and James Bedford Williamson of Chicago; four grandchildren, Beverly A. Williamson of Virginia Beach, Thomas Hill, Stephanie Hill and Patricia Hill of Chicago; a great-grandson, Eric Hill of Chicago; two nieces, Dora James and Barbara Jones of Norfolk; and other family members and dear friends.
