Arthur Murel Davis, 64, of the 400 block of Banks St. died Aug. 24, 1997, at 5:30 a.m. in his residence after three months of failing health.
He was born in Guilford County, N.C. He was a postal clerk first class in the U.S. Navy and was the son of the late Ernest M. Davis and Leola Ferguson Davis Gagnon.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Ledbetter Davis of the home; sons, Mr. Michael Davis of Silvis, Ill., Mr. Jeff Davis of Chesapeake, Mr. Robert Davis of Chesapeake, Mr. Wayne Davis of York County, Va., and Mr. Stephen Davis of Norfolk; stepdaughters, Mrs. Anne Clemmer of Burlington, Mrs. Susan Blake of Mechanicsville, Pa., and Mrs. Donna Ortega of McKinney, Texas; stepsons, Mr. Cecil ``Rhett'' Bray of Norfolk and Mr. Wade D. Bray of Virginia Beach; half-sister, Ms. Sandra Davis of Greensboro; five grandchildren; 12 stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was a Methodist and was predeceased by a son, Bret Davis.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran retired after 25 years of service.
The family will be at the Rich and Thompson Funeral Home, Graham, from 7 to 9 p.m. today and other times at the residence. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Rich and Thompson Chapel, Graham, by the Revs. Norman Whitney, pastor of Bethany Presbyterian Church, and Don Overman, pastor, Victory Worship Center.
