Pier fishing was good along the Dare Coast throughout the weekend.
Kitty Hawk Pier reported good Spanish mackerel fishing Saturday morning and good spot fishing the rest of the day. Little action was reported Sunday because of unusually clear water.
Spot, croaker, bluefish and Spanish mackerel were caught from Avon Pier Saturday. A 15 1/2-pound king mackerel was landed by Reggie Scott of Bassett, Va., during the tournament. A 45 1/2-pound cobia was decked later in the afternoon by Waken Feris of Kill Devil Hills and a 48-pound king mackerel was landed by Jerry Stokes of Kill Devil Hills.
A few blues, Spanish mackerel and spot were landed Sunday. A large king mackerel was lost.
Anglers on Nags Head Pier caught scattered Spanish mackerel, spot and bluefish off and on Saturday. Sunday's fishing was slow, with only a few small blues and spot taken.
Jennette's Pier reported little action except a few small bottom fish Saturday. Several pompano and Spanish mackerel were landed Sunday.
Fishermen on Outer Banks Pier caught small bottom fish, a few pompano and a handful of small bluefish Saturday. A 32-pound king mackerel was caught during the afternoon by Ernest Sprouse of Mineral, Va.
Spot fishing was good Sunday morning. A few Spanish mackerel, blues and a 28-pound king mackerel were landed during the day along with scattered spot.
South of Oregon Inlet, Rodanthe Pier reported plenty of spot taken Friday night and all day Saturday. Fishing was slow Sunday.
An 88-pound tarpon was decked Saturday on Avon Pier along with a few bottom fish and small gray trout. Quite a few spot and several keeper flounder were taken Sunday.
A few nice flounder, scattered pompano and a 17-pound king mackerel were caught by fishermen on Frisco Pier Saturday.
Several Spanish mackerel were landed early Sunday morning. A few spot were taken during the day. King mackerel weighing 18 and 33 1/2 pounds were taken late in the afternoon.
Small bottom fish, a few tailor blues and an occasional flounder were landed by surfcasters from Corolla to Oregon Inlet during the weekend.
Bottom fish, some nice flounder, gray trout and small bluefish were landed by fishermen in the Oregon Inlet area.
Plenty of small flounder, a mixture of small bottom fish, tailor blues and a few Spanish mackerelwere caught by surfcasters from Rodanthe to Buxton Saturday. Small bottom fish and pompano were beached in the area Sunday.
Spanish mackerel were landed in good numbers at Cape Point early Saturday morning. Pompano and flounder were taken in the surf near the lighthouse.
Blues and Spanish mackerel were beached along the south side of Cape Point Sunday morning. Flounder and pompano were landed along the north beach.
Bluefish were caught by surf fishermen around Hatteras Inlet Saturday. Sea mullet, spot, flounder and pompano were landed in the surf from Ramp 55 to Hatteras Inlet throughout the weekend.
Inshore trolling was fair around Oregon Inlet Saturday and Sunday with a few Spanish mackerel and bluefish taken.
Billfishing was good 60 miles northeast of Oregon Inlet Saturday. More than 50 white marlin were released including six by the Pelican and three by the Boss Lady. Scattered tuna, dolphin and a few wahoo were taken at the point.
Billfish action was good again Sunday with more than 70 white marlin released northeast of Oregon Inlet. Some charters reported as many as five releases.
Tuna fishing was good at the point with catches averaging eight per boat. Dolphin fishing was fair.
Scattered wahoo and tuna and a few dolphin were taken in the Gulf Stream off Hatteras Saturday.
Billfish releases included a blue marlin and a sailfish by the Top Billing, one blue marlin each by the Cap'N B. and the Hatteras Fever, a white marlin each by the Connector and the Brothers Pride and a sailfish by the Nancy E.
Dolphin fishing improved Sunday. A fair number of wahoo and a few yellowfin tuna also were taken. Sailfish were released by the Hatteras Fever and the Top Billing. Blue marlin were released by the Good Times and the Connector.
The water temperature was 74 degrees Monday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck and 77 degrees at Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island.
