Raymond W. Carter, 77, passed away on Aug. 25, 1997.
Born Sept. 17, 1919, in Norfolk, he was the son of the late William B. Carter and Beulah Benton Rose Carter. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4809. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard Shop No. 38 after 30 years of service. He was preceded in death by a son, William R. Carter, and a brother, Eddie Carter.
Survivors include his loving children, Terry L. Carter of Norfolk, Denise Carter Midgett and Celeste J. Stredler, both of Virginia Beach; a brother, Herbert L. Carter of Virginia Beach; a sister, Virginia Harris of Florida; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in Kempsville Baptist Church with Steve Carter officiating. Following the service, friends are invited to visit the family at 1624 Cliffwood Drive, Virginia Beach.
