DOLPHIN AND YELLOWFIN TUNA GET ANGLERS' ATTENTION

Dolphin fishing was good east of Oregon Inlet Wednesday with some limits taken. Tuna fishing improved with boats landing anywhere from four to nine yellowfins.

More than 30 billfish were released by the Pirates Cove and Oregon Inlet fleets including three white marlin and a blue marlin by the Sizzler and three white marlin by the First Crack.

Trolling was good, a short distance outside Oregon Inlet with albacore, king mackerel and a few bailer dolphin taken.

Headboats around Oregon Inlet caught scattered pigfish and croaker.

Inshore trolling was good in the Hatteras area with plenty of Spanish mackerel taken.

A few wahoo, yellowfin tuna and scattered dolphin were taken in the Gulf Stream off Hatteras.

Good numbers of marlin were seen, along with few scattered bluefish from Corolla to Oregon Inlet.

Small croaker, spot, sea mullet and some keeper flounder were beached around Oregon Inlet.

Surfcasters caught spot, croaker and bluefish along the beach from Rodanthe to Buxton. Five to six-ounce sinkers were necessary to hold the bottom.

Spot, croaker and sea mullet were landed on both sides of Cape Point and a few pompano were taken along the north beach.

Quite a few Spanish mackerel were landed by surf fishermen in the Hatteras Inlet area Wednesday on the change of tide.

Pier fishing was good south of Oregon Inlet but slowed appreciably along the northern beaches Wednesday.

On Hatteras Island, fishermen on Rodanthe Pier caught plenty of spot and some nice pompano.

Avon Pier also reported good fishing with spot, croaker, sea mullet and scattered pompano taken.

Spanish mackerel action was good during the morning on Frisco Pier. Plenty of eight to 10-pound false albacore were around the pier in the afternoon and a good number were landed on jiggers.

Kitty Hawk Pier reported little action throughout the day.

Several bluefish and a few Spanish mackerel were landed on Avalon Pier. Quite a few nice cobia were seen, but none was hooked. Live bait was scarce.

Only a few scattered spot were taken on Nags Head Pier.

Anglers on Jennette's Pier caught a few keeper flounder, released lots of small flounder, and landed several speckled trout.

A few flounder, spot and pompano were taken during the day on Outer Banks Pier. Two small cobia were released.

The water temperature was 75 degrees Wednesday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck, and 77 degrees at Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island.
