MARY B. BOWDEN

Mary Baldwin Bowden, 76, of the 100 block of Sykes Court, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 1997, in Riverside Regional Medical Center.

She was a native of Isle of Wight County and retired in the early 1980s from the GTE Telephone Co. with 23 years of service.

Mrs. Bowden was a member of Smithfield Baptist Church, AARP and the Hardy's and McDonald's Gang. She was the widow of John Ashby Bowden Sr.

Survivors include a daughter, Shirley B. Rainone of Courtland; a son, John A. Bowden Jr. of Fredericksburg; a sister, Myrtle B. Bailey of Williamsburg; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Colonial Funeral Home by Dr. Donald R. Rhoton. Burial will follow in St. Luke's Memorial Park, Smithfield. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today in Colonial Funeral Home and suggests memorial contributions may be made to Smithfield Baptist Church, Building Fund, 100 Wainwright Drive, Smithfield, Va. 23430.
