JAMES E. PARSON

James Elvert Parson, 73, of the 2400 block of Kennon Ave., died Aug. 27, 1997, in Sentara Leigh Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Parson was retired as an equipment specialist for the Naval Air Station. He was born in Norfolk and was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, 1502 Link St., Norfolk, and its male usher board, joint usher board, senior choir, president of the male choir and a member of the board of deacons. He was also a member of Masonic Rising Sun No. 2 Shriners, Arabian Temple No. 12 and Afro Omega Consistory No. 9.

Survivors include his wife, Helen O. Parson; a daughter, Alethia A. Parson of Norfolk; four sons, Thurman Parson, Alfred James Parson, William Lomax, all of Norfolk, Sylvester Troy Parson of Charleston, W.Va.; three brothers, Willie Speaks of Portsmouth, Ernest Fugate and Lawrance Bagby of Norfolk; daughters-in-law, Lela Parson and Gay Parson of Norfolk; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, in Bethlehem Baptist Church by the Rev. H. Bernard Branch. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the residence, 2441 Kennon Ave. Hale Funeral Home is handling arrangements. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
