William Luther Simerson Sr., 83, died Sept. 2, 1997, in a Norfolk hospital.
Born in Davidson County, N.C., he had retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Shop No. 31, as a machinist after 40 years of service. He also retired as a machinist after 19 years from General Foam Plastics in Norfolk. He was a member of Lafayette Presbyterian Church and the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 39, Norfolk. He was the widower of Evelyn Adolia Simerson.
Survivors include a son, William L. Simerson Jr. of Virginia Beach; a sister, Virginia Miller of Greensboro, N.C.; four grandsons, William Mark Simerson and his wife, Valerie, of Virginia Beach, Larry Robert Simerson and his wife, Christine, of Norfolk, Jeffrey Scott Simerson and his wife, Kelly, of Virginia Beach, and Brian Simerson of Connecticut; one granddaughter, Deborah Lynn Simerson of Queens, N.Y.; seven great-grandchildren, Sydney, Murphy and Lindsey Simerson of Virginia Beach, Andrew, Aaron and Ethan Simerson, all of Norfolk, and Joshua Simerson of Virginia Beach; one sister-in-law, Louise Simerson of Lexington, N.C.; numerous nieces and nephews; one daughter-in-law, Linda Kidd and her husband, Waid, of Chesapeake; and a loving friend and companion, Mildred C. Werner of Norfolk. He was predeceased by a son, James C. Simerson.
A graveside service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Friday. Burial will take place in Barnes Family Cemetery, Churchland, N.C. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel.
