Colington Yacht Club sailors have won two of the three races in the Albemarle Challenge Cup competition off Colington Harbour that drew 32 sailboats.
Pete Hunter won the spinnaker class title in Nineoneone and Jim Davis took the Class B crown in Milinda. The Class A trophy went to Archie Farmer of the Pasquotank Yacht Club at Elizabeth City in Feather.
Second in the spinnaker division was Chris Elliot of the Edenton Yacht Club in Matador, with Tom Pittard of Edenton taking third in Gray Ghost. Second in Class A was Skip Carney of Edenton in Spooners with third claimed by Shawn Murphy of Colington in Seabird. Second in Class B was won by George Kendall of Colington in Liberty Call and third went to Bob Carson of Pasquotank in Serenity.
The sailors, who raced in the first leg of the triad in Elizabeth City, will meet again in Edenton on Oct. 4 for the third and final leg to determine the Albemarle's best sailors for 1997. ILLUSTRATION: WIND IN THEIR SAILS
