FREDERICK T. GILES

Frederick Taitt Giles, 89, of the 100 block of Country Club Drive, died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 1997, in his home.

Mr. Giles, an engineer, attended Duke University and graduated from Furman. He was a member of various nuclear societies. During World War II, he was employed by Ford Instrument Co., a division of Sperry Corp., setting up gun fire control for many large destroyers. He also worked at the Air Force Special Weapons Center, Albuquerque, N.M., on Instrumentation of Underground Nuclear Testing. At RCA, Mr. Giles spent some time at Kwajacein inspecting radar site and working on missile and surface radar.

He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Edenton and Providence Masonic Lodge in Creswell.

Survivors include his wife, Anna Bristol Giles; two daughters, Suzanne Collins of College Park, Md. and Barbara Sato of Castro Valley, Calif.; one son, Frederick G. Giles of Charlotte, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Karren Simmons, Eric Yarrus, Jamie and Maclean Forquer, Taitt Sato, and Josh and Shelby Giles.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Paul's Episcopal Church by the Rev. Jack Rivers. Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, is in charge of arrangements. Friends may join the family at the residence.
