WILLIAM L. UPTON

William Lee Upton Jr., 70, of the 2500 block of Pruden Blvd., died Wednesday Sept. 3, 1997, in Louise Obici Hospital.

He was a native of Beaufort, N.C., a retired farmer and a Baptist .

Survivors include eight sisters, Mattie R. McGraw, Margaret Barr, both of Chocowinity, N.C., Mary Taylor of Windsor, Edith Butts of Warren, Mich., Lou Ellen Nurney of Windsor, Evelyn Nichols of Chesapeake, Carolyn Cook of Fresno, Calif., Joyce Hawks of Salem, Va.; two brothers, James Guriney Upton of Suffolk, A. Gregory Upton Sr. of Smithfield; and special friends, Alma Ballard and Janie Phelps, both of Suffolk.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Bethany Church Cemetery by the Rev. John Robert Jones. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today in Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield, and suggests memorial contributions may be made to Nansemond-Suffolk Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O.
