Hazel Cooper Smith, 70, of the 800 block of Wide St., died Sept. 2, 1997, peacefully after a brief illness at Heritage Home.
She was a native of Windsor, N.C., and the daughter of the late Joseph and Gladys Cooper. She was a member of Gideon's Riverside Fellowship, where she served as a nurse's aide.
Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Coward of Virginia Beach and Shelia Smith of Norfolk; three sons, Louis Smith Jr. of Portsmouth and Elwood Reed and Reginald Smith of Virginia Beach; a sister, Catherine Cherry of Windsor, N.C.; three brothers, Joseph Cooper of Brooklyn and Hoyt Cooper and Garland Cooper of Windsor, N.C.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Gideon's Riverside Fellowship by the Rev. Milton Reid. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Viewing will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday in Riddick Funeral Service. The family will be receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
