ELIZABETH MCCLANAN ANGEL

Elizabeth Porterfield McClanan Angel, wife of William J. Angel, of 330 Sea Pines Court, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 1997, in Virginia Beach General Hospital.

Born Dec. 21, 1912, in Broad Ford, Va., she was the daughter of the late Thomas Buchanan Porterfield and Lizzie Miller Porterfield. Mrs. Angel graduated from Emory & Henry College in Emory, Va.

After marrying William W. McClanan Jr. in 1935, she came to Virginia Beach, where she taught for many years in the public school system, both at W.T. Cooke and Alanton Elementary. Mr. McClanan died in 1983.

In June, 1984, she married William J. Angel. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Princess Anne Country Club, and was a former volunteer at Virginia Beach General Hospital.

Mrs. Angel is survived by her husband, William J. Angel; a son, William W. McClanan III of Virginia Beach; a daughter, Susan M. Boatwright of Charlotte, N.C.; six grandchildren, John G.P. Boatwright Jr., Elizabeth B. Fields, Patricia P. McClanan, W.W. McClanan IV, Ann S. McClanan, and J. Russell McClanan; and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday in the First Presbyterian Church, 36th and Atlantic Ave., by Dr. J. Scottie Griffin, pastor. Burial will follow in Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery, Laskin Road. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 945, Virginia Beach, Va. 23451 or to the First Presbyterian Church, 36th and Pacific Ave., Virginia Beach, Va. 23451. Maestas Funeral Home Baltic Ave. Chapel is handling the arrangements.
