Anita Freeman Godwin, 67, of the 500 block of High St., died Wednesday night, Sept. 3, 1997, in her home.
Mrs. Godwin was born in Gates County. The daughter of the late Joseph Ray Sr. and Mrs. Virginia Elizabeth Pittman Freeman, she was a retired school teacher having taught at the Louisburg, N.C. High School and the Whaleyville, Va. High School. She was a member of Gatesville Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Philip P. Godwin Sr.; a son, Philip P. Godwin Jr. and his wife, Nora Bundy Godwin, of Gatesville; two grandchildren, Hannah Pittman Godwin and Philip Pittman Godwin III; her sister, Edith Freeman Seiling of Gates; two sisters-in-law, Sally Mathias Freeman of Gates and Margaret Simpson Freeman of Ahoskie. She was predeceased in death by her two brothers, Joseph Ray Freeman Jr. and Julian Pittman Freeman.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Gatesville Baptist Church by the Rev. Gene Asbill and the Rev. Billy Presley. Burial will follow in the Godwin family plot at the Gatesville Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Wynne officiating. Friends may join the family today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Miller Funeral Home, and all other times at the residence.
