Mollie Anderson Fearing, 72, died Sept. 3, 1997, in a Chesapeake hospital.
Mrs. Fearing was a native of Manteo and was the owner/operator of Mollie A. Fearing and Associates Inc., Insurance Agency. A very active business and civic leader for many years, she held a number of offices including Manteo Town Council member, Dare County Board of Elections chairman, Roanoke Island Historical Association secretary and Board of Directors, president of Sea and Sound Arts Council, secretary and Personnel Committee chairman for the Dare County Tourism Board, first vice chairman of the Dare County Democratic Party and chairman of the Dare County Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. Fearing served on the Board of Directors for the N.C. Coastal Resources Commission, N.C. Theater Arts Council Inc., the Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce Inc., director-elect to Southern Bank and served on the Legislative Research Commission to study insurance problems. She was a member of the Democratic Women of Dare, the DAR, N.C. Society of Mayflower Descendants, Dare County Arts Council and the N.C. Aquarium. She was the daughter of the late Malcolm Keith Fearing and the late Grizelle Midgett Fearing.
She is survived by one daughter, Grizelle Bartlett Fearing of Manteo; two brothers, Daniel Bradford Fearing II of Miami and Woodson Bradford Fearing II of Manteo; one granddaughter, Courtney Anderson Mann, also of Manteo.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Lost Colony Amphitheater. A private burial will take place in the Manteo Cemetery today. Visitation will be held at the residence on Uppowoc Street from 4 to 7 p.m. today. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lost Colony Endowment Fund, 1409 Highway 64/264, Manteo, N.C. 27954. Twiford's Colony Chapel, Manteo, is in charge of these arrangements.
