Curtis Rodinbush Nixon Jr., 73, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 1997, in the Hampton VA Hospital.
He was a retired machinist for Norfolk Naval Shipyard, a member of Port Norfolk Baptist Church and an Army veteran of World War II during the invasion of Normandy where he received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He was a member of the DAV Chapter No. 22, a past member of VA Defense Force, Golden Rodents, 4th Division Ivey League and the VFW.
Survivors include a daughter, Emma N. Snyder, and her husband, Kenneth R. Snyder of Portsmouth; a stepson, Raymond A. Little of Ocean Isle, N.C.; a sister, Catherine Wyant of Chesapeake; a brother, Howard Nixon of Fort Worth, Texas; three grandchildren, Christine Snyder of Elizabeth City, Anthony K. Phillips of Miami, Shawn M. Phillips of Ocean Isle, N.C.; and one great-grandson, Ryan N.M. Phillips of Virginia Beach. He was predeceased by his wife, Janie L. Nixon and his granddaughter, Gina L. Snyder.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Portsmouth ward, by Bishop Gene Jones. Entombment in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens will follow. The family will receive friends in Loving Funeral Home, Churchland, from 7 to 8 p.m. today.
