Janet A. Scarborough, 38, died Friday, Sept. 5, 1997, at a Chesapeake hospital.
Mrs. Scarborough was born in Norway, Maine and was a homemaker. She was a member of the St. John's United Methodist Church and was active in community affairs, especially the sports program for the children of Hatteras Island. She was a 1978 graduate of Cape Hatteras School and attended Chowan and Old Dominion University. She was the daughter of the late Robert Herzing and Arlene Donahue Williams of Avon and the wife of Kevin Scarborough, also of Avon.
Besides her mother and husband, she is survived by one son, Jesse Patrick Scarborough of Avon; two sisters, Katherine Herzing of Kill Devil Hills and Sandra Etheridge of Buxton; four brothers, Joseph Herzing of Oakland, Maine, Michael Herzing of Kill Devil Hills, Robert and Terry Herzing, both of Avon; her mother-in-law, Earle G. Scarborough of Avon; a stepfather, Cecil S. Williams of Accomac; a maternal grandmother, Hilda Donahue of Bethel, Maine, and several nieces of nephews.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in St. John's United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ray Warren, Rev. Barry Taylor, Rev. Don Brown and Rev. Don Vess officiating. The body will be placed in the church today at 3 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Jesse Scarborough Scholarship Fund, c/o Centura Bank, P.O. Box 176, Buxton, N.C. 27920.
