Doreen G. Bradbury Cassidy, 53, mother of Christine and Daniel Cassidy, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 1997, after a long and courageous struggle. Doreen, who was well loved for her kindness and generosity, was a gifted artist. She also relished traveling, bingo and her Bonko group.
Doreen was born in 1943 in St. John's, Newfoundland, and had moved to Virginia from Cecil County, Md., in 1991. She also had lived in Toronto, Ontario and New York state. While raising her family in Cecil County, Doreen was an active volunteer for the Friends of the Villa Aviat, Boy Scouts of America, Chesapeake Bay Girl Scouts, and the Little League. In Virginia Beach, Doreen was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Newfoundland Society of Tidewater, Va.
In addition to her children, Doreen will be missed by her mother, Myrtle Bradbury of St. John's, Newfoundland; her sister, Debra Bradbury of Newport News; niece, Cathy and nephew, David; her aunt, Irene Ryan of Palm Harbour, Fla.; and many devoted friends. Doreen's husband, Thomas Cassidy, died in April of this year. Her father, Reginald Bradbury, died in 1991.
A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. today at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Virginia Beach by the Rev. Samuel D. Austin.
