Ruth M. Kempton, 76, died Sept. 5, 1997, in a local hospital.
Born in New Jersey, she was retired from retail sales and a Methodist. Mrs. Kempton was a former member and past president of Sherwood Forest Garden Club.
Survivors include her husband, Ray A. Kempton of Norfolk; two daughters, Ruth A. Moore of New Jersey and Gloria Lewis of Arkansas; three sisters, Lois Direnzo, Joan Simon and Sandra Hess, all of New Jersey; four brothers, Clarence Mead, Warren Mead, Donald Mead, all of New Jersey, and Fred Mead of Virginia; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at noon Monday in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens by the Rev. James Nowell. The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, with a processional going to Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, is in charge.
