REBECCA J. UNDERWOOD

Rebecca Johnson Underwood, 85, of the 300 block of Saunders Drive, died Sept. 4, 1997, in her home.

A native of Welden, N.C. she was a retired registered nurse from Norfolk General Hospital. An alumni of Kings Daughters School of Nursing, she attended East Carolina Teachers College. She was a member of Cradock Presbyterian Church, Cradock Women's Club, United Daughters of the Confederacy, and past president of Cradock Presbyterian Women. Mrs. Underwood is predeceased by her parents, Mary Parker and Drewry C. Johnson; and a brother, Graham P. Johnson.

Survivors include her husband, Milton P. Underwood; two sons, John Underwood of Chesapeake and James P. Underwood of Portsmouth; six grandchildren, Jay, Scott, Alan, Gregory, Brad Parker and Deanna; two great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Irma S. Johnson.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Cradock Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Richard W. Lovingood. Burial will be in Cedarwood Cemetery, Weldon, N.C. at 3 p.m. Monday. The family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cradock Presbyterian Church. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
