IRVING L. TARKINGTON

Irving L. ``Irv'' Tarkington, 72, died Sept. 7, 1997.

Mr. Tarkington was born in Roper, N.C., where he was a member of Zion Chapel. He was manufacturer's rep with IT Sales Company. He was a member of Elks Club BPOE No. 38 and VFW Post 4809.

Survivors include a son, Jeffrey D. Tarkington of Virginia Beach; three sisters, Audry Hardison of Elizabeth City, N.C., Pearl T. Myers of Norfolk and Dora T. Gibbs of Belle Haven, N.C.; a brother, Elbert T. Tarkington of Roper; grandchildren, Chelsea E. and Meredith M. Tarkington of Virginia Beach; and other survivors, Jo Ann Hamby and many close friends and loved ones. He was predeceased by a brother, Raymond A. Tarkington.

A funeral will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in Woodlawn Funeral Home. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today.
