Retired PC 1 Richard Lee Griffin, USN, 64, died Sept. 7, 1997, in Portsmouth.
Born in Mount Morris, Mich., he retired from the Navy after 20 years of service. He was employed by St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, where he also was a member. He was a member of the church's Men's Club and the Fleet Reserve Association.
Survivors include his wife, Kathleen P. Griffin; daughters, Lorri Lin Griffin and Sandra Lee Griffin, both of Virginia Beach; a son, Charles C. Griffin of Baltic, S.D.; two sisters, Barbara A. Griffin of Stoughton, Mass. and Sharron P. Broyles of Orlando, Fla.; two brothers, Marvin F. Griffin of Bay City, Mich., and David E. Griffin of Monroe, Wis.; and four grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday in St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church by Father Paschal Kneip, O.S.B. A graveside service will be in Arlington National Cemetery at 10 a.m. Friday. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. Memorials may be made to St. Gregory's School, 5345 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach, Va. 23462.
