Francis Willard ``Bill'' Smathers, 89, died Sept. 7, 1997, at Sentara Leigh Hospital, Norfolk.
Born in Canton, N.C., he resided in Orlando, Fla., most of his life. The last few years he lived with his son and daughter-in-law in Virginia Beach.
Survivors include his son, Thomas O. Smathers and his wife, Darlene, of Virginia Beach; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Ralph Smathers of Coral Gables, Fla., and C.J. Smathers of Brooksville, Fla.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Orlando, by the Revs. Hugo and Peggy Venegas of Emmauel Church of Christ. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
