Bettie Willoughby Tinkham, 87, of Route 4, died Sept. 9, 1997, in Guardian Care Nursing Home.

Born in Hertford County, N.C., she was the widow of James A. Tinkham and a member of Hickory Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, Ahoskie. Mrs. Tinkham was a homemaker.

Survivors include a brother, Thomas E. Willoughby of Nags Head; six nieces including Betty Castelloe, of Windsor, whom she raised; and three nephews.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie by the Rev. Robert May. Burial will be in Willoughby Family Cemetery, Ahoskie. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. KEYWORDS: DEATH OBITUARY
