NORFOLK CITY COUNCIL

These are the actions from the Norfolk City Council meeting Tuesday. Councilman Conoly Phillips was absent. Unless otherwise noted, all actions were unanimous.

CONSENT AGENDA

Recommendation of the City Planning Commission on the application of Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority to close, vacate, and discontinue portions of Maysville, Augusta, Brickhouse and Elmwood avenues, and Outten and 17th streets.

Recommended action: Advertise for a public hearing for Sept. 23. Approved.

REGULAR AGENDA

An ordinance to amend and reordain section 25-646 of the Norfolk City Code, 1979, in order to change the speed limit at various locations. (Passed by at the meeting of Aug. 26, 1997.) Approved.

A resolution requesting that the members of the House and Senate of the U.S. Congress approve the request of the Tidewater Transportation District for $2 million for fiscal year 1998 for preliminary engineering and environmental analysis for the Norfolk-Virginia Beach light rail project. Withdrawn.

An ordinance authorizing the city manager to enter into a right-of-entry agreement with Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority about the Plum Point property. Approved.

An ordinance accepting with appreciation the donation of $3,500 from Richard Levin for the construction of streetscape improvements in the 400 block of 21st St. Approved.

An ordinance authorizing the sale of certain city-owned property in Suffolk to the state for $3,590. Approved.

An ordinance authorizing the conveyance of an easement to Hampton Roads Sanitation District. Approved.

An ordinance to amend and reordain the Norfolk City Code, 1979, in order to add one new section numbered 37-46 allowing portability of service between the Employees' Retirement System of the City of Norfolk, certain political subdivisions of the commonwealth and the Virginia Retirement System.
