FAIR FISHING OFF KITTY HAWK PIER MANAGES TO PRODUCE PLENTY OF SPOT

Pier fishing along the northern beach area was fair Tuesday.

Plenty of spot were taken from the end of Kitty Hawk Pier during the morning. A few spot, puppy drum, gray trout and sea mullet were landed in the afternoon.

Anglers on Avalon Pier caught a few bluefish, Spanish mackerel, spot and gray trout off and on during the day.

Nags Head Pier reported slow fishing. A few spot, small speckled trout and a 3-pound flounder were landed.

A few nice speckled trout and small pompano were taken on Jennette's Pier. A 24-inch striper and quite a few small puppy drum were released.

Scattered small bottom fish and pompano were landed on Outer Banks Pier. Small puppy drum and striped bass were released.

South of Oregon Inlet, good numbers of spot were taken on Rodanthe Pier Monday night. Scattered spot were caught Tuesday.

Fishing was slow on Avon Pier during the morning but improved in the afternoon with spot landed two at a time along with some nice gray trout.

Seas were rough in the Frisco Pier area and anglers caught only a few small flounder.

Surfcasters from Corolla to Rodanthe landed a few bottom fish.

Bluefish and a few spot were beached in the surf from Rodanthe to Buxton. Some Spanish mackerel were taken at Cape Point early in the morning. Spot, croaker and small bluefish were landed during the day. Some keeper flounder were hauled in along the beach south of Cape Point.

Headboats operating in the Oregon Inlet area caught croaker, spot and a few keeper gray trout Tuesday.

Albacore and bluefish were taken by charters trolling around the inlet.

Blue water action off Oregon Inlet was good. Dolphin were plentiful between the 1250 rocks and the point. Scattered tuna also were taken in the area.

Plenty of billfish were released northeast of Oregon Inlet. Most charters accounted for 3 to 4 white marlin releases. The Sea Toy released 10 white marlin.

Charters off Hatteras caught lots of dolphin, plenty of wahoo and a few yellowfin tuna. Sailfish were released by the Fin Quest and the Release.

The water temperature was 74 degrees Tuesday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck, and 79 degrees at Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island.
